STEEP Analysis

A scan across five forces (Social, Technological, Economic, Environmental, Political) for emerging trends and weak signals.

Why it matters

Surfaces the context and change your AI will have to live inside, beyond the immediate feature.

When to use it

At the very start, to map the external forces around your product.

How to run it

  1. List signals under each of the five forces.

  2. Flag the weak signals: today's fringe behaviour that could go mainstream.

  3. Mark each signal's likely implication for your users.

  4. Carry the strongest 2–3 signals into Synthesis.

Watch out for

Collecting trends you find interesting rather than ones that bear on your product.
